A Russian singer serving a second consecutive 13-day prison term for misdemeanour offences is to face fresh charges for “discrediting” the army, St. Petersburg news website MR7 said on Saturday.

MR7 noticed the fresh charges against Diana Loginova, or Naoko, the lead singer of the band Stoptime, on a St.Petersburg court website. Although the court registered the latest charge of “discrediting” the army on 1 November, it only appeared on the website on 7 November, and details of the charges are not specified.

Loginova was due for release from prison on Monday, having been sentenced to a second successive term of 13 days on 29 October for “organising a rally” and “petty hooliganism”. Naoko was sentenced to her first 13-day term on 16 October. The two other band members — guitarist Alexander Orlov, who is Loginova’s fiancé, and drummer Vladislav Leontyev — are also currently serving prison terms on the same charges.

The musicians were initially detained on 15 October after impromptu street performances of songs by Russian artists deemed “foreign agents”, including rapper Noize MC’s anti-war song Swan Lake Cooperative, the lyrics of which mock the propaganda narratives put out by the Kremlin at the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and singer-songwriter Monetochka’s song You are a Soldier, one lyric of which goes: “And whatever war you are fighting, Sorry, I’ll be on the other side.”

Since Stoptime’s arrest, there has been a wave of Russian protest TikToks, with clips of people performing tracks by Monetochka and Noize MC going from views in the tens of thousands to over amillion within days.
