Ukraine struck a drone technology manufacturing plant in the Volga region city of Cheboksary in the early hours of Wednesday, as Russian forces launched airstrikes across Ukraine’s southeastern Zaporizhzhia region.

Ukrainian regional authorities reported on Wednesday morning that 19 people had been injured and over 50 residential buildings had been damaged in Russian airstrikes on Zaporizhzhia.

The strikes on the Zaporizhzhia region coincided with Ukrainian strikes deep inside Russian territory, with Chuvashia Governor Oleg Nikolaev reporting that the city of Cheboksary, some 600km east of Moscow, was subjected to “a massive attack by enemy drones” that injured two local residents and damaged two residential buildings.

As well as damaging residential buildings, Ukrainian drones struck a Cheboksary plant that manufactures Kometa antennas for the Russian military and technology used to protect Russian drones from Ukrainian disabling software, according to Russian Telegram news channel ASTRA. The plant has already been targeted by the Armed Forces of Ukraine twice this year.

Russia’s Defence Ministry reported shooting down a total of 33 Ukrainian drones overnight, mostly over Russian regions bordering Ukraine.
